Danish courses for new students after July 2018
As a beginner, you must start with a Danish language first module of approx. 3 months. This module will give you language skills corresponding to European language scale A1, and it will be the entry point to continuing your language studies, if you should choose do so.
Costs: refundable deposit 1.250 DKK (repayable at the end of the module) + non-refundable module fee of 2.000 DKK.
How do you continue after the first module?
Option 1: DU (Danish as a foreign language package)
Follow through with 4 more modules, which are part of a Danish for foreigners language package, that builds up to the final language exam called Prøve i Dansk, that you can use when applying for permanent residence, citizenship or further studies in Danish.
Total cost: 8.000 DKK (2.000 DKK/module) You can stop after each finished module.
Timeline: max. 3 years.
Option 2: FVU (adult language-learning package)
Continue with a Danish course that addresses all types of learners, not only foreigners.
This course is made of 5 sections and it is part of the Danish Ministry of Education offer for all adult learners in Denmark.
If you successfully finish all 5 sections, you will have the necessary language skills to pass the same language exam mentioned in the section above, Prøve i Dansk.
Total cost: free of charge for you
Timeline: approx. 1,5 years
Entry test: you have to pass a initial screening test
Danish course for continuing students, registered before July 2018
Those of you who have started taking DU (Dansk Uddannelse) language courses before July 2018 are also subject to the new legislation that introduces the module-fee of 2.000 DKK each time you start a new module after the date of 1st July, 2018. This means that you will start paying immediately after passing a modultest after this date. As with the new students, you also have two options:
Option 1: continue with the DU courses and pay 2.000 DKK/module.
Registration to Prøve i Dansk (final exam) is free of charge if you finish all five DU modules within the allocated time (max. three years and a half from start date).
Option 2: continue with another type of Danish course, namely FVU (forberedende voksenundervisning), which is free of charge for you. FVU Danish is part of the adult education package offered by the Education Ministry to all adults in Denmark. Therefore, the type of FVU language teaching is not only focused on foreigners who want to learn Danish as a foreign language, but to all types of learners.
At the end of the FVU-Danish course, you will have acquired the language skills necessary to pass a Prøve i Dansk.
